In the exhibition Unika, you will see the textile works from Susanne Klose and the ceramics from Nina Møller Kristensen. These two artists were colleagues in The 80s in Nørrebro. Since then, their paths have crossed several times. Nina passed away in 2021 and in her memory, Susanne has initiated the exhibition in collaboration with the Gallery. Experience their beautiful works in interaction with each other and let yourself dream into a universe of patterns and delightful colours referring to the nature and culture they are both inspired by.

The textile artist Susanne Klose (b. 1962) graduated from Håndarbejdets Fremmes Seminarium in Copenhagen in 1986 with clothing as a major and fabric printing as an optional subject. In the period 1986-1997, Susanne was a member of the fabric printing workshop at Fælledvejens Passage in Nørrebro in Copenhagen. Here she organized a workshop for the children and young people she worked with in Nørrebro. When she became a mother herself, she moved the workshop home. The natural materials as silk, cotton and linen are the preferred materials. Good qualities that last for many years and always with a focus on good craftsmanship that requires great patience and also a bit of temperament.

In the period 1986-1992, Susanne was a student at Ulrik Hoff’s Drawing and Painting School in Charlottenlund. At the exhibition there will be works from this period that support the ceramics’ color palette and style. For a number of years from 2009-2023, Susanne has been involved in association work and was, among other things, chairman of the Danish Textile Guild – weaving, printing and embroidery, in the period 2019-2023 and deputy chairman in 2016-2019.

In connection with her work on the board of the Danish Textile Guild and the exhibition miniTEX 17, Susanne got in touch with Galleri Krebsen and it is this acquaintance that is now bearing fruit in the form of the exhibition UNIKA. Here you can experience Susanne’s works in interaction with ceramicist Nina Møller Kristensen’s works. The two were colleagues at Nørrebro in Copenhagen in the 80s and since then their paths have crossed on several occasions. During the exhibition period, there will be continuous POP UP – Textile Talk in the Gallery.

The ceramist Nina Møller Kristensen (1946-2021) graduated from the School of Crafts in Copenhagen in 1969, and subsequently she attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen: The School of Masonry and Space Art in 1969-72. In her workshop, Nina worked with the classic forms of everyday use such as bowls, jugs, jars and cups. Nina was very inspired by nature and in the exhibition you can explore a large jar with a tree stump pattern. The beautiful jugs in the exhibition are also inspired by birds. In her works Nina also reused geometric shapes as well as complex patterns and figures she had seen on her travels in the Middle East.

Nina has documented all of her works in diaries and sketchbooks, and these books, works and conversations with the family form the basis of the book: “Nina Møller Kristensen – A Potter”, published by the publisher: Gratiosa in 2022. Nina’s entire production is documented here with text by art historian Nina Hobolth based on the idea of visual artist Kirsten Christensen, a former student friend and close friend.

In the exhibition there will also be process photos from the workshop near Brumleby and the story goes that Nina Møller Kristensen helped develop the fluoride glaze, as a replacement for the poisonous lead-containing glaze. With the exhibition, the artist Susanne Klose wants to remember a good colleague and a skilled and inspiring ceramicist as well as create a space to show a wide range of Nina’s impressive and beautiful production.
